I aim to build strong and secure relationships with clients to facilitate therapy that can be lasting and impactful.
I know from personal experience that life is full of ups and downs and it can sometimes feel as if the downs are too much to bear. I will seek to understand how clients are feeling, what they are feeling, and why they are feeling this way.
Doing this may involve looking to the past, including childhood and familial relationships, as this is often the best way of understanding the present. But it may also involve more existential considerations around things such as meaningfulness, existence, love, desire, death and purpose.
As I am integratively trained I seek to adapt my practice to the needs of the client. My aim is not to impose my thoughts and inevitable biases onto a client, but to create a space where the client can be free to explore their own thoughts and guide them to find solutions.
Sessions are weekly and last 50 minutes. I typically work with no pre-determined end-date to therapy, preferring instead to review the work and progress at regular intervals. Clients are free to end therapy at any point, though I would advise that this is considered before a final session, as I believe endings to be an important part of therapy.
I have experience in private therapy institutions where I have worked with people with a range of issues, in particular stress, anxiety and depression; and within the NHS, based in a Community Mental Health Trust, where clients have typically experienced psychosis and/or suffer from mental health conditions such as schizophrenia.
Having worked with people from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances, I understand the need to address these circumstances and consider how these might affect the therapy. Being honest, inquisitive and ultimately secure around our differences – be they age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity – can help facilitate good therapy.
